Recent conceptual and technical progress has made it possible to realize and control strongly-correlated non-equilbrium quantum states of matter on various experimental platforms, ranging from the ultracold atomic systems to ultrafast solid state spectroscopy. The central question of the field is to identify and study emergent phenomena and universal properties for systems that are far away from equilibrium. This will be the overarching theme of this WE-Heraeus-Seminar.

Central topics include
  • universal dynamical phenomena in the time-evolution of isolated quantum systems
  • emergence in periodically driven Floquet systems
  • driven dissipative quantum systems
  • numerical methods to study the out of equilibrium dynamics in quantum many-body systems
The workshop will feature a number of longer lectures that introduce the concepts and provide a state of the art overview of these different areas. These lectures are accompanied with presentations on topical research themes of the field.

We particularly invite junior scientists during their PhD or PostDoc to apply. The program will leave plenty of time for discussion, and all participants are encouraged to present their work in a poster session.

The Seminar is generously funded by the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation. Funding covers full board accommodation for all participants.
